wendover woods - 04-04-11

KentATB trip around the M25 to explore the Chilterns & Bedfordshire.

This was actually a two day trip. We spent our first day at Wendover woods. Such a great place to bomb the service tracks and hit a bit of single track. The woods are vast so there is more than enough to spend a day exploring. Unfortunately we did not get any photos. It really is not the sort of place to take pictures. When the riding is so good it is the last thing on your mind. Just enjoy the trails.

Wendover woods - mountainboard trail map

A map of the trails we rode. This map is by no means extensive. I am sure there are many more trails in the woods. All trails are graded for difficulty.

Zoom out of map for cafe and shops in Wendover / Cholsbury bivvey site.

In the evening we bivvyed out at Cholsbury iron age fort. Probably not the most discreet place , but they had a nice pub within walking distance of our chosen campsite. Our tents were met with disapproval in the morning from local dog walkers.

So on to day two. After striking camp we moved on to our next destination Chicksands bike park. This place is tricky to find. You can be within a stones throw , and just drive right past it. Once in the woods you will find all sorts of mountainboard goodness. To start with there is the 4x. This is not optimal for a board but is still good fun with sweeping berms. Next on the agenda is the dual slalom. This is a great track to race down with each rider in their own luge style channel. After that the mini downhill run, and then on to the other hill to sample the freeride area. Making sure not to forget the dirt jumps on the way.

Here are a few pics mainly of the 4x and dual slalom.

A small map just to clarify where the parking is and where the main riding areas are.
